5 Quick Ways To Stop Slicing The Ball

1. Stance

There is a good chance that your stance is open you are always slicing the ball. If your stance is always open, then you’re going to be swinging on your feet line which will always be left. So you’re going to be swinging left and coming over the top with an open clubface which causes you to have a major slice and lose massive yardage.

A good drill to stop slicing is to aim right and shut the face, this will allow you to turn over the clubface and hit a draw. You will be hitting pull draws but it will help you get out of the habit of aiming left and slicing the golf ball.

2. Grip

A lot of golfers tend to use a grip which is weak. a weak grip is when your thumbs are pointing straight down the shaft. You can fix this by making your grip stronger so that your hands are facing away from the target and both palms are parallel to one and other. Golfers also tend to have a very tight grip which doesn’t allow them to release their club or turn it over so one thing that is crucial to remember is having a soft grip.

Jack Nicklaus said that you should hold the club with the amount of pressure that it would not fall out of your hands but if someone were to walk up to you they could pull the club out of your hands.

3. Quick Drill

One drill that I personally find really quick and easy to do on the range is to put the ball in the back of your stance and try hitting a hook. Hit half shots with just feeling your wrists roll over and shut.

Once you see improvement in the flight and seeing it hook or draw, start to increase your swing and then eventually hit it with a full swing. This is not a drill that you would see coaches telling you, it’s like the black market for golf tips 😂. But you have to trust me, this really works!

4. Aim Straight

If your slicing the ball please realize this… THE MORE YOU AIM LEFT THE MORE RIGHT YOUR BALL WILL GO AND THE LESS DISTANCE YOU WILL GET! Many golfers think that if they aim more left, it will somehow magically fix the slice. However, sadly that is not true so please just fix your alignment.

Pick a spot ahead of your ball and set your self up to that, square your soldiers and your feet, keep your clubface square and it will be very hard to not hit it straight. Just trust your line and focus on finishing your swing. It is very easy to fix a slice so don’t stress out!

5. Mental Strategy

If you go into the shot thinking you’re going to hit a slice, you 100% most likely will. You can do all the drills in the world and work with the best coaches, but if you don’t fix your mental thoughts going into the shot, all the lessons won’t matter.

Just believe that you will hit a good shot, go into the shot by aiming straight and doing everything that YOU can do to hit the shot you want. Most golfers focus on the uncontrollable results, focus on what you can control and you’ll fix that slice, I promise.
