1. Club Selection
Right club selection is the main key to hitting more greens. Many people will hit a drive smashed down the center but then mess up their approach shots. The key to solving this issue is understanding the distance you have and how you can play the shot. Just because your rangefinder or the sprinkler head says 158 yards doesn’t mean you should hit it 158 yards. Many people make the mistake of hitting the club that will travel exactly 158 yards, OPEN your eyes and see where the flag is.

I have made this mistake many times, I would be 133 yards out and the flag would be at the back, I would hit a 133 yard shot and my ball would go over the green forcing me to scramble for a par. Taking 1 minute more to hit your shot is not a big deal. Just understand that you can land it short and roll, or play it to some slope. DON’T just simply go for the pin
2. Go For The Fat Part Of The Green
Going for the flag on every shot will definitely not help you hit greens. If you play to the part that has the most space you will improve you GIR’s immensely. I know it is very hard and that you really want to shoot 62 (let’s be realistic here, you’re not Justin Thomas) but sometimes taking the safe route will help you be more consistent. Hitting more greens will help you have more birdie putts which will give you a chance to take back a few shots and you might just pull off a career low!

Just remember that you don’t have to always go pin seeking, you can play a safe shot to the middle of the green and make a two-putt par. If you three-putt than you should read my blog 5 Quick Ways To STOP 3 PUTTING
3. Get More Information
The more information you have, the more confident you will be. Don’t just measure the distance to the pin and hit the ball, look at how much it is to the left bunker or right bunker (If you want to play a fade or a draw), Check the wind, see what the yardage is to the front of the green and to the back of the green.

Getting all this information in your head will help you understand what type of shot you have to hit and will help you have the positivity and confidence to pull off the shot you want to hit.
4. Committing To The Shot
Once you know what shot you want to it, DO NOT change your mind after. Staying committed to the shot you want to hit will help you pull the shot off. Just trust your swing and your shot plan.

What do you prefer, hitting the shot you wanted to hit but realized you were aiming wrong and miss calculated or hit a bad shot and knew that if you had just trusted yourself you would have been perfect? I’m guessing the first one, any golfer would prefer to have the first one. Just commit to the shot and hit it, you know how to hit it just believe in yourself.

5. Aim Small to Miss Small
Narrowing down to a small target and focusing on a small target will force you to miss very small. For example, if you aim for the whole green, don’t narrow down to a small target and hit a bad shot, you will miss the green by a mile. However, if you aim for a small part of the green or a small shadow you see and miss it, you won’t be too far from your target. This will help you hit more greens and be more accurate on your approach shots.
